VA Wine GuideNorthern Virginia

How this guide works

VA Wine Guide answers the practical questions people ask before a winery visit in Northern Virginia: can we bring the children or the dog, can we bring a picnic, is there food, do we need a reservation, will a limo or bus be accepted, and when are they open.

Where the answers come from

Every answer comes from the winery's own website. We read the pages a visitor would read (FAQ, visit, policies, hours, events) and record each answer with a short quote from the page. The quote is checked against the page automatically; an answer we can't point to on the winery's site is shown as "their website doesn't say" rather than guessed. Each answer on a winery page links to the page it came from and shows the date we last checked it.

How often it's checked

Winery websites are re-read about once a month, and answers are updated when a page changes. Event calendars are checked daily for wineries that publish one in a standard format, and weekly for the rest. We currently list events from 34 wineries' calendars.

Drive times and maps

Drive times between wineries come from the OSRM routing engine on OpenStreetMap data and are estimates without traffic. Maps use OpenStreetMap data and OpenFreeMap tiles.

What we don't do

We don't take payment from wineries, publish reviews or ratings, or set cookies. VA Wine Guide is not affiliated with the wineries listed, the Virginia Wine Board or the Virginia Wine Marketing Office. Policies change, especially around events and holidays, so call ahead before a big group visit.
